The fibonacci sequence. The following number is found by adding up the two numbers before it.
The growth spirals in sunflowers (and pine cones, or tree branches, or sea shells, and so much of nature) follow the fibonnaci ratio. The relationships between the bone lengths of human fingers, hand, and arm also follow the fibonnaci series.
